It’s the time of year when bodies start to bronzed, and toned, teeth whitened and hair highlighted. The problem with this, the highlighting the hair to the hilt in the height of summer (gotta love some asonsence!), is that the sun and surf leave your hair feeling dry and brittle.
Now I am a huge fan of a good highlight…I have gone blond to many times to count, but this year…I went dark! Ok, well it’s not exactly chocolate brown, but its a nice warm toffee colour. And I’m loving it. Even with out the tan, I look healthier.
The thing about blond s brunette is that the wrong shade of blond can in fact wash you out, rather than warm you up…I guess the same goes for a brown shade that is too dark. If your hairdresser is any good, they will advise you on what shades of blonds and browns will suit your skin colour.
My genius of a hair dresser (Shanti @ LOVE in Dunkly Square) used a vegetable dye. She applied it straight over my multitude of previous colours (and we sneakily left some blond tips out) and hey presto, lovely healthy, shiny, happy hair appeared. And the great thing about this product is that if the dark is too dark or too scary, you don’t need to bleach the &%#! out of your hair, you can simply use a high-lifter and you will be back to light again.

If you care to know more about vegetable dyes (the professional hair kind) or highlifters or alternative hair bleaching/dying processes, let me know and I will put up some more information.
Stay healthy, happy and shiny!
